Richard Whitfield
From Face to Face Trust
Richard Whitfield
Richard Whitfield has extensive international practical experience as a science-trained teacher and educator. From a doctorate in antibiotic chemistry, he became successively a school science teacher, University Lecturer at Cambridge, Head of the Department of Educational Enquiry and Dean of Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Aston in Birmingham.
In 1983 he moved into the Charity Sector, first as UK Child Care Director for the Save the Children Fund, then responsible for over 150 largely remedial projects with over 700 staff throughout England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Then invited to Chair a 'National Campaign for Families' he became a research-informed child, family and youth development activist and futures analyst.
He has lectured and consulted world-wide, and written well over 30 books, including over the past decade 'surprise' volumes of poetry, some with public policy relevance. Richard with his wife Shirley share four grown-up children and six grandchildren. Born in Yorkshire, now resident in West Dorset, his final full-time post was Warden (CEO) of St George's House in Windsor Castle, a broadly-based, spiritually-informed futures study centre co-founded by the Queen's husband. He was elected Professor Emeritus of Education for distinguished service at Aston University in 1983. In an active non-retirement he is the Founding Chairman of Trustees of the Face to Face Trust.
